Cultural Heritage & Sustainable Tourism for Development
“The Florence Declaration”
This resolution written and supported by ICOMOS ICTC Expert Voting Members will be presented to delegates attending the 19th ICOMOS General Assembly in Delhi, India, December 2017. It is the result of our International Expert Symposium on Cultural Heritage Conservation & Sustainable Tourism and International Cultural Tourism Charter Review + 20 Workshop 18 – 19 May 2017, held at the Romualdo del Bianco Foundation, Florence, and chosen to coincide with the United Nations International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development (IYSTD) 2017.
International Cultural Tourism Charter Review +20
The Interim Report is now available. It is an internal report for ICOMOS ICTC members. The next stage will involve wider consultation among ICOMOS colleagues and members of UNESCO, UNWTO & IUCN. Once we have reviewed the full results of the consultation process we will consider whether a new Charter is needed. Given the immense changes in the volume of tourism and expanded notions of cultural heritage to include food, hospitality, traditional sports, festivals, historic city centres, monuments and rural cultural landscapes as well as the influence of new technologies in decision making at all levels, it is evident there may be a need for a new Charter.
An ICOMOS ICTC Charter Working Group was set up in Florence to progress the Charter Review + 20 and will continue their work into 2018
